In my role as Executive Principal I sit on the LGB as a Governor with specific responsibility for SEND. I am also a Trustee of the Oakwood Academy Schools Trust. I have led the school through academy conversion in 2012, opened a 6th form and lowered our age range so we can facilitate smoother transition to secondary education. I became a National Leader of Education in 2015 and Oakwood was designated a National Teaching School in 2016. We are now working hard to train the next generation of SEND teachers and support colleagues in a variety of settings.

I became a Governor when I saw how much the school had helped my son, my motivation is to help other sons and daughters achieve their potential and aspirations. I have helped lead the school through considerate change and I am very proud that we promote the highest standards in all areas of school life.

I joined Oakwood Academy as a governor, specifically on the finance committee, to offer my general experience in finance and my more recent experience spent working within DfE on academies and teacher training finance and governance. The school has exciting plans for the future and I wanted to assist in making this journey a success by offering my experience and guidance to enable these plans to be delivered and thus benefit the students.

Currently I am responsible for the Apprenticeship Programme of the Damson Group which has 10 restaurants and Cocktail bars. I run a Looked After Children’s Programme in Salford twice a week, they cook for homeless people, refugees and families who need a hot meal. I am also the Operations Director of Veterans Who Cook, a partner of Walking with the Wounded, we cook for the homeless with War Veterans enabling the Veterans to gain employment. I am a Falklands War Veteran. Oakwood is a truly amazing school with fantastic students and dedicated passionate teachers. I am privileged to run the Chef School here and was deeply honoured when asked to become a Governor.

I am currently a parent governor at Oakwood Academy which I enjoy immensely! I have 3 children, one who attends Oakwood. I worked as a paediatric nurse for 10 yrs before becoming a full time carer for my son. Jack has thrived at Oakwood and loves the school, which is why I decided to apply for a governor post. I am also an active member of Friends of Oakwood who organise lots of events for the children and families at the school. I understand what it is like to care for a child with additional needs and hope as governor I can speak for the parents of Oakwood.

I have been Head at The Canterbury Centre, Salford’s Pupil Health Referral Unit, since 2012 and have overseen lots of improvements there. The Canterbury Centre has worked very closely with Oakwood Academy to raise standards for the benefit of all who attend.
My area of expertise is mental health and emotional wellbeing. Schools have a role to play in supporting pupils to be resilient and mentally healthy; academic success correlates strongly with robust mental health and wellbeing.
I feel privileged to join Oakwood’s governing board and work as part of the Curriculum Committee. I am looking forward to ensuring that the young people attending Oakwood Academy continue to enjoy their learning and prepare effectively for life post-16.

I recently joined the governing body at Oakwood Academy because of the working partnership the academy has with The Canterbury Centre PHRU where I am the Vice Chair of the Management Committee. Outside of being a governor I am Retail Manager with specific responsibilities for operational management, human resources, health and safety. In addition to volunteering as a governor at two schools, I am also an active volunteer with Greater Manchester West Scouts with overall responsibility in the county for Beaver Scouts (age 6 to 8) and form part of the training team focusing on inclusivity, safeguarding and leadership skills.
