Admissions

Oakwood Academy is barrier free and caters for 314 pupils aged 9 - 19. All pupils at Oakwood have a range of complex learning difficulties and physical disabilities.

Children are admitted to the school following a statutory assessment of special educational needs (SEN) under the 1996 Education Act and Local Authority decision, alongside a consultation with the Headteacher to determine that Oakwood Academy is an appropriate placement to meet the child’s SEN. Oakwood Academy are unable to accept direct requests for placements from parents or carers or other local authorities. Pupils who attend Oakwood Academy have an Education, Health and Care Plan which outlines the area of need and what provision and resources are needed to support the pupil. Admission is also subject to there being a place available in school.

Prior to admission the following usually takes place: Where possible a member of the Inclusion team will have attended the annual review, telephone communication with the parent/carer with either the Inclusion Manager or relevant Head of Year. The child, Parent/Guardian will have visited the school and discussed the special educational provision available.
